Mobile World Conference 2017: Soracom launches IoT connectivity services in Europe

BARCELONA, Mar-2-2017 — /EPR TELECOM NEWS/ — Soracom announced this week at Mobile World Conference its launch of IoT connectivity services in Europe and confirmed commitment to growing IoT by eliminating the barriers related to security, price, speed-to-value and scalability that currently limit IoT development.

The Internet of things offers endless possibilities. With IoT adoption growing quickly, developers are finding that security and scalability remain key challenges. For start-ups and developers, typical enterprise-grade solutions are out of reach, and more affordable solutions often lack crucial security features.

“We offer low start-up costs, no binding contracts and a flexible pay-as-you-go model for every use case, from garage-level prototyping to massive industrial deployments,” said Parag Mittal, Chief Commercial Officer of Soracom. “We need a sustainable Internet of Things. A smart meter that consumes lot of power for onboard encryption and data transmission to the cloud is not that smart. By reducing power and data consumption on the device side, and delivering a private network as a service for everyone, we ensure a secure, scalable, sustainable ecosystem for IoT.”

“Soracom aims to use its platform to contribute to the overall growth of the IoT industry,” said Ken Tamagawa, Chief Executive Officer of Sorcom. “Current IoT connectivity providers do not really offer secure and swift delivery of services that are affordable and available for everyone in a democratized way. Connecting devices to the internet or the cloud is the easy part. Securing devices and data is the most critical. If it’s on the public internet, it’s hackable. Our customers connect their devices directly to the cloud, using a private network provided by Soracom instead of public internet.”

Widely recognized as one of Japan’s leading IoT technology providers, Soracom uses a unique approach and architecture to provide secure data transfer at lower costs for its global customers and brings this technology to users across all industries. Canon, Konica MinoltaSafecast, Komatsu, Omniflow, and Enerbrain are just a few among the 5,000 clients Soracom connects today.

Soracom’s SIM cards are tailored for IoT devices and can be managed through APIs and a web console that allow convenient, real-time activation/deactivation of SIMs, traffic monitoring, network configuration and visualization, storage and management of data, and many more detailed operations.

MDM of Steel – Reclaim Control of Corporate Email on Android!

3CX, developer of the award-winning Windows VoIP PBX 3CX Phone System, announces the launch of 3CX Mobile Device Manager version 6.3 which provides unparalleled Android manageability by allowing administrators to remotely configure corporate email, and retain control of the sensitive stored attachments and emails. 3CX DroidDesktop has also been integrated, providing administrators the ability to remote control Android smartphones and tablets.

“Up until now, Android has lacked the management features to control and secure email. Hampered by Android’s inability to manage corporate email, that mantle has traditionally fallen to Blackberry. With 3CX Mobile Device Manager 6.3, businesses can have peace of mind as they can securely and efficiently deploy corporate email as well as delete emails and attachments from Android devices at any point”, said Nick Galea, 3CX CEO.

Secure & Manage Corporate Email and Attachments

3CX Mobile Device Manager incorporates the most popular commercial Android email client – AquaMail, allowing administrators to remotely configure corporate email and retain control of stored attachments and mail. The stock Android email app is very limited, whereas AquaMail provides administrators with full control over corporate email, without affecting the user’s personal emails. Companies can now delete all corporate emails as well as the attachments that are stored on the device when an employee leaves the company. 3CX Mobile Device Manager provides Enterprise-style features for SMBs at a fraction of the cost and administration effort!

Remote Control of Android Phones

3CX Mobile Device Manager has integrated the popular 3CX DroidDesktop Android app, which gives the user remote file management access, allowing them to download and upload files from their mobile device to their computer and vice versa. Stored files on the device can be previewed and the user can use the Delete, Create, Copy and Paste actions for files and folders. This is an excellent feature when administrators need to manage the user’s storage space on their devices as they can easily move or delete unnecessary files quickly without interrupting the user.Remote shell access allows the administrator to use commands to access the Android’s inner workings and is especially useful for developers as it allows them to fix devices remotely. Administrators can also view the device system logs keeping a close eye on what actions the device and applications are running, which is very useful for debugging or tracing the source of problems.

Friends Reunited launches mobile app to help save memories

Friends Reunited has launched a new mobile app to help people turn their old photos, tickets, letters and memorabilia into lasting memories. ‘My Keepsafe’ is available now, and for free, on Android and iPhones.

The new app allows Friends Reunited members to easily upload photos from their mobile phone to their Friends Reunited Keepsafe, which stores the memories privately and safely online. The Keepsafe contains uploaded photos, or any memories ‘kept’ on the Friends Reunited site, so users can now keep up with comments and conversations around these photos, wherever they are. The new app also gives people the ability to share those ‘Remember when’ moments happening around them, such as discovering a pack of Sherbet Dib Dabs in a local shop, or a picture from a reunited band’s comeback gig.

The app’s camera and editing tools make it simple to quickly digitise old photos and upload them privately, with just a couple of clicks. Once a photo is uploaded, it can be shared via Facebook, Twitter and email from directly within the app. It can also be shared with the thousands of memory boxes already created on Friends Reunited, or form the start of a brand new nostalgic collection.

Matt Bushby, Head of Friends Reunited commented: “Our members have shown a real desire for a quick and straightforward way to get their most precious memories online. The ‘My Keepsafe’ app was created to make this really easy; with inbuilt functionality to scan, edit and share memories from old albums and shoeboxes, or simply to upload photos saved on mobile phones.

“Since launch, we’ve seen members add thousands of photos to their own personal keepsafe boxes, covering anything from favourite sporting memories to the more intimate and personal family memories. As the home of the nation’s memories, we want to make it as easy as possible for people to share these amazing moments with the friends and family that really matter.”

Members can upload their memories with the peace of mind that they can easily control their privacy settings. The site allows people to store their most personal memories completely privately or choose to share those memories with a select few. In addition to the new app, the full Friends Reunited experience is available on mobile devices, allowing users to keep up with their favourite memory boxes, on the go.

Friends Reunited was launched in 2000 as the first UK social network. The phenomenon then spawned sister sites Genes Reunited and Friends Reunited Dating, in 2003, the Group was bought by ITV in 2005 and the social networking site went free in 2008. In March 2010 online publishing and technology group brightsolid purchased the Friends Reunited Group from ITV and has integrated it into its portfolio of pioneering sites where people go to search their past, share their story and connect with people and places. In April 2012 the new site launched to reunite the nation with every blast from their past and as the place to celebrate those ‘Remember when?’ moments.

Signature Capture from Mobilize – More Efficient Mobile Workforce Management

Electronic signatures work just like a signature on paper, indicating that a person agrees with the content, or confirming that they wrote the message. In the age of e-commerce and mobile workforces digital signatures are incredibly important, but the concept is nothing new. Telegraph signatures were being used in the nineteenth century and faxed signatures were all the rage in the 80s. Today mobile devices are able to capture signatures digitally, and it’s a great development for mobile workers who need to get signatures from customers, partners or clients on the go.

It’s just one of the features offered by MoCo Software Solutions in their Mobilize mobile workforce management system. Moco were established in 1985 as a mobile phone solutions company, and Mobilize is their complete solution for mobile workforce management, offering users access to a range of services including signature capture, job scheduling, timesheet administration, asset management, barcode scanning and a full reporting suite.

Using a mobile workforce management system enables managers to keep a closer eye on remote workers, as the device can even report on signal outages and time changes.

Mobilize was designed to help business improve service levels and reduce cost, and is being used by many different types of organisations who see the value in terms of efficiency and cost-saving. Mobilize takes paper-based processes and integrates them into one, paperless system, improving real time communication and reducing the amount of duplicate work and form-filling for everybody involved.

The division between business and consumer IT applications and devices is shrinking, and an increasing number of people are using personal electronic devices for work, including tablets and smart phones. Mobilize is an ideal way for managers to ensure the security, immediacy and accuracy of data.

MoCo are offering a free one month trial to those who want to try out the Mobilize system. The MoCo Group are experts in bespoke mobile solutions for blue chip clients, with over twenty five years of experience in delivering tailor made software solutions, surpassing client expectations.

Mobile Workforce Management Made Simple with a Free Trial from GoMobilize

This increasing mobilisation of the workforce will bring changes to the way we think about mobile workforce management solutions.

The gap between business and consumer IT applications will continue to shrink and virtually everything will become optimised for mobile use, with more and more employees using their own devices for business and pleasure, rather than employer provided hardware.

This change to the use of personal devices (or consumerism) will mean that security will be a very high profile area, as the focus moves from securing a tightly controlled, office based network to multiple employee controlled devices handling sensitive data.

Locking down the network and banning personal devices will only have to effect of eventually reducing security, as employees seek to find ways around the rules, so It departments will have to become more flexible.

Because of this, cloud based solutions will become more and more important and cloud security will be also firmly in the forefront of IT department’s minds.

Business focused social networking – not necessarily social networking as we know it – but specific business applications designed to behave like our favourite social networking sites and primarily used for business rather than leisure functions will become the norm. These would have the advantage of being similar to the social sites employees are already using, making them easy to use and understand, and probably requiring less user training and support.

Smart businesses will take full advantage of existing systems and devices by using easily adaptable solutions like Mobilize from MoCo Software Solutions.

This mobile workforce management system allows users to take advantage of existing mobile phone technology for proof of attendance, paperless form filling and signature capturing and much, much more.

To find out more about the Mobilize free one month trial visit www.gomobilize.co.uk.

Results Are In: Revel Systems’ David and Goliath Story Continues

On January 31, 2012 Revel Systems was officially announced as the winner of the Business iPad App of the Year Award. This weekend at Macworld | iWorld, it was clear early on that the Best Business iPad App awards came down to two remarkable companies: Square, led by Jack Dorsey, and Revel Systems, led by female entrepreneur Lisa Falzone. Both of the nominees were a hit with the crowd, and both were in the payment industry, which is the fastest-moving market for iPad apps. Even though voters were presented with an impressive field of nominees, the battle was clearly dominated by these two competitors.

While competition was fierce between Square and Revel, here’s a breakdown of the vote: First of all, users chose Revel Systems as the most useful business iPad app. Revel was also found to help with a wider array of business functions, with seven to Square’s four. Square was found to have over 100,000 users, while Revel Systems has fewer than 100,000. As far as which offers the simplest user interface, both companies were tied. Finally, users chose Revel Systems as the company with the best customer support.

In the end, Macworld users declared Revel Systems iPad POS the winner. Lisa Falzone, CEO and co-founder of Revel Systems, told iPad Biz Apps today that “Revel is honored to have won such an award, and thanks all of the voters at Macworld | iWorld for voting for them.” A wide range of powerful apps were represented, but Revel’s sophisticated level of functionality and wide range of applications led to its selection as the best iPad business app.

Even though Square has been nominated for a Crunchies award, and has over 100,000 customers, users found that it only supplies a payment app. On the other hand, Revel Systems offers a fully functional Point of Sale system to manage every task that store owners encounter on a daily basis. This can explain why Revel has landed deals with many heavy-hitters like Popeye’s Chicken in Georgia (popeyes.com), Illy Coffee in San Francisco (illy.com), U-sushi in San Francisco (u-sushi.com), Camille’s Sidewalk Café in Oklahoma (www.camillescafe.com), and other big franchises. On the other hand, Square’s clientele is largely restricted to businesses that only require a few simple operations, including farmers’ markets, taxi cabs, and street vendors.

Now that the competition is over, Ms. Falzone is back to leading Revel Systems to the top of the Point of Sale marketplace. She has raised $3.7 million in her “A” round of funding last year and is gearing up for her “B” round. The recent victory of Revel Systems has cemented Ms. Falzone’s place among today’s top women entrepreneurs, and she looks forward to the future of what Revel Systems will accomplish. Moving forward, the company hopes to facilitate growth through its open API, which allows all companies to integrate into Revel—creating new opportunities for local commerce to thrive into the future.

MoCo Touch Proves Security Guard Attendance on Vulnerable Construction Sites

The only thing standing between thieves and expensive plant and raw materials on a construction site is a fence. As the price of plant machinery and raw materials continues to spiral, thieves are increasingly targeting building sites, considering them to be easy targets, especially those in more remote or rural areas.

Recent research by security CCTV providers Netwatch estimated that the cost of crime to the UK construction industry could be as high as £1.6 billion a year once costs such as replacement plant hire, business interruption and increased insurance costs are taken into account.

Commenting on the study, Founder and Technical Director of Netwatch, Niall Kelly said: “This is a major problem for the construction business. It is an astounding amount of money for the industry to be losing each year”.

He went on to say that the value of construction raw metals like copper, aluminium and lead has seen a huge rise over the past twelve months thanks to the fluctuating economy, warning that security is an issue for all firms, and pointing out that: “… even the best security guards can only be in one place at a time, making it very difficult to deter thieves and vandals.”

As a sector which is still being hit hard by the worsening economic climate, construction companies cannot afford to risk incurring any extra costs, let alone at these levels. They, and their insurance companies, will have no choice but to demand increasing performance and value for money from all of their contractors, but especially their security guards.

The onus is firmly on security guarding companies to ensure that patrols are effective, and perhaps even more importantly, that guard attendance can be monitored and proven to clients.

The MoCo Touch security guard tracking solution enables security companies to prove that every guard checkpoint has been visited, on time, and agreed actions have been taken. This data can then be instantly updated centrally without the guard having to be back at base.

This affordable technology allows guarding companies to prove beyond reasonable doubt to clients and insurance companies that their patrols have been on-site and that all required location checks have been made.

“We developed Melinas Conquest with one thing in mind…FUN!”, says Abhinav Gupta, Lead Developer and CEO of Game Scorpion Inc.

“Gameplay was a major item that we looked at with this game. I have personally seen many games out there that have high end 3D graphics and look ‘pretty’ on the screen, but when it came time to play the game, it was either boring or very confusing to play.”

Melinas Conquest features easy to use controls and an easy to manipulate camera. A single button is given for attacking enemies and a simple timer and ranking system.

“The goal of the game is simple, you just need to run from one end of the level to the other side without getting killed by all the various traps and enemies that pop up. At the same time along the way you will have to defeat major bosses and can follow along with an interesting storyline that ties into our future games.”

So what makes this game different from others in the market? “Price, levels and gameplay!”, says Gupta, “Many games that feature 3D graphics in the App Store or the Android Marketplace usually go for around $4.99 for their full versions. We are at a mere $2.99 price and offer 20 levels of gameplay which in most cases is far higher than what others are offering. We also make our game easy for players to play. You get value for your money and a high quality game at the end of the day that will satisfy even the most frugal shopper! Also, no two players will play the game the same way as the levels are auto-generated.”

It took Gupta and his team approximately six months to develop the game from the ground up. “There were times where I even thought we were not going to be able to get the game done…it was 16-20 hour days for myself every day for the past six months, praying daily hoping that our game would release and would be successful.”

A lot of small independent game developers like Gupta do not earn any money during development. This can be quite a challenge to have no income hoping that an app will hit off. In this market, apps can be made over a weekend and make millions or can take months and make nothing at all. “It’s a coin toss”, says Gupta, “but I personally believe that if we focus on quality games, sooner or later our players will pay for that quality and our games will start to increase in popularity.”

As a Computer Science Graduate from Ryerson University Gupta took the leap of faith into the app world at the beginning of 2011 and has finally made that dream come true. “It was a lot of hard work, a lot of faith in God and a great team behind me. Lots of support from my wife and family really helped out.”

Melinas Conquest is now live on the Apple App Store and on the Android Marketplace and can be purchased as of October 15th, 2011, for just $2.99.

Untethered Jailbreak iPhone 4/3Gs 5.0/4.3.5 and Unlock Using FastRa1n

After the release of latest iOS 5.0 and iOS 4.3.5 folks start asking about that they can unlock and untethered jailbreak iPhone 4/3Gs 5.0/4.3.5/4.3.4/4.3.3 devices on latest released iOS.

After some time of bomb questions we got a good news from Jailbreak and unlock iPhone 4/3Gs ios 5.0 community that this new update of iOS is still jailbreak and unlock able with fastra1n, this time this news is come from the www.FastUnlockiPhone.com Team.

To Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone Using FastRa1n Visit The Official Websitewww.FastUnlockiPhone.com

Well its not mean that you can jailbreak your iPhone right now, to jailbreak your iPhone to get untethered jailbreak and unlock you have to visit the fast unlock iphone team website and get the new versions of their tool FastRa1n. The FastUnlockiPhone.com released FastRa1n to support untether jailbreak for all devices (except iPad 2) on iOS 4.3.5 and 5.0 firmware.

We have already covered extensive how-to tutorials for jailbreaking iOS 4.3.5 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod touch 4G/3G. In case you are still facing problem, follow the well explained instructions in the official website below to jailbreak your compatible iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod touch untethered on iOS 4.3.5/5.0 using Redsn0w.

Apple is pretty good about getting the latest versions of iOS onto the streets in an effort to sooth consumer gripes and make the platform better than ever. However, while they make their usual round of plugging bugs and other security exploits they usually plug the exploits used by jailbreakers to actually perform a jailbreak. Luckily, this doesn’t seem to be the case with iOS 4.3.5 as already a jailbreak and unlock method as been made available with the name of fastra1n.

Just the other day we let you know that fastra1n had been updated to unlock / jailbreak Apple’s latest iOS 4.3.5 and ios 5.0 release. However, it’s been made known today that this same jailbreak can also be used to perform an untethered jailbreak for the system. For those not aware, an untethered jailbreak allows you to jailbreak your device once and then be done with it – even when you reboot your device. A tethered jailbreak, on the other hand, requires a user to perform the jailbreak every time the device is turned off or otherwise loses power.

So this is great news for iPhone owners running iOS 5.0 and 4.3.5 as they now have an easy way to perform an untethered jailbreak. Unfortunately, it’s also been made known that fastra1n still does not include support for the iPad 2 so you’ll still have to wait tight for that. On the bright side of things everyone from iPhone to Apple TV owners can now perform the jailbreak.

U.S. Company Turns to BRAZIL to Advance New Technology

We Don’t Make the Smartphone…We Make it Smarter, Safer, Courteous and Compliant.

With a registered bill on the table, U.S. based Try Safety First (TSF) is deploying time, talent and resources into Brazil to advance its new mobile phone protocol technology. With its white paper being published in more than twenty-four countries across the globe, it is Brazilwhere TSF is looking to launch.

When asked why Brazil , TSF CEO John Fischer said, “TSF is eager to work with all governments and strategic partners to advance our patent-pending protocol technology. But to date, it is the congressional leaders of Brazil who have demonstrated the greatest desire and responsiveness to tackle the serious cell phone problems in their country.”

According to the World Health Organization, environment specific (prisons, court rooms, classrooms, in flight and behind the wheel) cell phone problems are costing theworld’s top industrialized countries between one and three percent of GDP. Fischer agrees societal cell phone problems are dynamic, devastating and very costly. But he also expands the statement by saying they can easily be eradicated with the implementation of TSF protocol technology.

TSF is the world leader for mobile device protocol development. According to Fischer, the advancement of TSF’s protocol technology will provide an optional tool for parents, teachers, judges, wardens, pilots and employers to easily eliminate cell phone problems within their respective environments. TSF’s primary objective is to establish a uniform global standard throughout the wireless industry to increase the functionality of mobile devices to provide simple solutions to remedy grand societal problems.

Worldwide Roaming Information A Fraction Of The Usual Cost Thanks To Abroadband

Abroadband have become one of the few operators who offer roaming broadband at extremely low rates when compared to well known providers. Users can gain access to the internet for only €0.59 per megabyte. This flat rate global data roaming service has attracted many travellers to change their sim card when abroad. Until worldwide regulation is introduced to force other providers to lower their prices, abroadband will march ahead and gain more custom.

The operator began life earlier this year and looks set to post a healthy profit come the end of 2011. Abroadband was launched by Austrian telecoms giant ‘Telekoms Austria’. The idea was in response to the many complaints by travellers fed up with high data charges when using the internet abroad – hence the name ‘abroadband’. From the get go the service has been designed to counter ever increasing charges on roaming rates imposed by many other operators.

A revealing article that was published by the online magazine ZDnet in March this year showed that the reasons behind high data charges are simply down to profit. As many operators tend to offer many deals and bolt-ons in the domestic markets, many tend to take advantage of the unregulated roaming sector to gain back money. The reaction to this has led to new regulations being introduced in Europe that impose a cap on the amount of data customers can use in a month when travelling. This only applies to countries throughout the EU and abroadband offer their flat rate outside of Europe. So far the service extends to over 50 countries world wide and there are plans to increase this to more by the end of 2011 and into 2012.

Negative reaction to roaming rates outside of Europe has led to calls for other continents and countries to impose caps on other operators to force them to reduce their data charges. Abroadband has already left the competition behind though. The flat rate service is not the only benefit they offer customers. Being aware of the different ways people access the internet, the operator has offered three simple options to meet all connection needs. A worldsim card, a micro sim card and a dongle are all available on initial subscription to the service. With business travel on the increase, dongles and micro sims are becoming more popular. The BBC recently published a report on their website illustrating the different ways people are using to avoid roaming headaches when travelling (source: BBC). Abroadband have taken these methods into consideration and have acted accordingly on their website allowing customers access to connection options to suit their needs.

The abroadband service has been positively reviewed by Mobile Industry Review and looks set to attract more attention before the year is out. According to Ewan MacLeod – the entrepreneur editor of the online magazine – abroadband’s mobile roaming solution is half the cost of the Vodafone roaming plans.

Research Now Reveals Preferences For Internet Service Providers In Australia

Research Now has conducted a poll among 2,000 Australian respondents aged 18 and over to find out what is the preferred internet service provider in the country. Over 50% of Australians are currently using Telstra BigPond (34%) or Optus (19%) for their broadband internet access. The remaining 42% of respondents receive broadband access from additional providers including iiNet (8%), Dodo (3%), Westnet (1%) and “others” (30%), such as Virgin, Transact, Southern Cross and People.

Approximately 95% of the online survey respondents said they had some form of broadband internet connection in their home, but according to the BBC, the average speeds of these connections are slow compared with many industrialised countries.

In June 2011, the two telecom giants, Telstra (the parent company of BigPond) and Optus, announced that they will be joining efforts with the government to roll out a $36bn plan to provide high-speed internet access across the country through the National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co)*. The new infrastructure project will connect more than 90% of households to a super-fast network, delivering over 100 megabits per second – making it easier for those without internet access (5% of those surveyed) to receive a fast broadband service.

Due to the extensive broadband operations already in place by Telstra and Optus, the government concluded it would be more economical to bring the two entities together to avoid duplicating existing broadband infrastructure and reduce the disruption to local communities**.

The initial migration of Telstra and Optus customers to the new infrastructure is reported to commence in 2014, and is expected to take a maximum of four years to complete***. During this transition phase, Telstra and Optus will close down their infrastructure and transfer customers to the state-owned National Broadband Network Company****.
